About the organisation

Canberra Rape Crisis Centre (CRCC) is a non-government, not-for-profit organisation working to eliminate sexual violence against adults and children of all genders. CRCC provides free, specialist and confidential counselling and support to victim-survivors of sexual violence and their families, supporting people who have experienced sexual violence recently or in the past.

CRCC is a specialist service responding to significant and growing demand. In the last financial year, the organisation has supported more than 13,000 crisis contacts and provided counselling to approximately 5,500 clients, often with complex presentation.

This is an exciting time to join CRCC. The organisation is celebrating its 50th anniversary, undertaking repositioning and strategic planning, and developing updated models of care. By joining the team, you will play an important role in strengthening clinical practice and supporting CRCC through this next phase of growth and development.

Benefits

• Base salary of $125,000 - $135,000 + super (expectations outside of this range will be considered)
• Salary packaging benefits of up to $15,900 for living expenses plus $2,650 for meals and entertainment
• 25 days paid annual leave and professional development allocation of 2.5% of salary

About the roles

These are hands on senior clinical leaderships roles that provide leadership, mentoring and supervision and would suit experienced clinicians who have sound clinical judgement and crisis intervention skills with strong people leadership, emotional resilience and a collaborative, team-focused approach. These roles will shape the counselling practice and crisis support teams through a period of growth and service delivery.

Counsellor Coordinator

The role will lead and support the counselling team, review cases and oversee therapeutic intervention, while ensuring a strong focus on quality assurance, professional practice and client outcomes. You will contribute to service planning, policy and clinical framework development, support staff through complex presentations and risk management, and help strengthen CRCC’s approach to trauma-informed care. You will regularly act as the Emergency Contact, providing after-hours escalation and support. The role also contributes to stakeholder engagement, professional training and continuous improvement, while maintaining a small clinical caseload as required.

Crisis Coordinator

This role supervises the crisis phone line and call-out functions and supports clinicians managing complex and high-risk presentations and ensures effective service coordination during periods of high demand. You will also oversee risk management and operational decision-making, and regularly act as the Emergency Contact, providing after-hours escalation and support. The role may also involve direct crisis intervention, supporting victim-survivors during forensic medical examinations and police interviews, and responding to disclosures of sexual violence.

Skills and experience required

You are an experienced clinician, with tertiary qualifications, who brings strong therapeutic expertise and the confidence to lead and develop others. You come from a foundation of social work, counselling, psychotherapy or psychology, and have experience working with clients that have experienced trauma. You will ideally have:

• Strong understanding and experience of supporting people experiencing complex trauma or complex mental health presentations, including assessing suicide risk and self-harm
• Experience providing trauma-informed counselling or therapeutic services
• Strong clinical risk assessment and management capability including clinical supervision and people leadership
• Emotional resilience to work with highly distressing and complex presentations
• Bachelor of Master qualifications in social work, counselling, psychology or a related discipline with significant relevant experience
