Organisations we work with

NGO Recruitment works with a variety of purpose-driven organisations, operating at a local, national, regional or global scale.

We work with both not-for-profit and for-profit organisations (or branches of such organisations) which have a social impact or social good purpose.

The activities and focus areas of these organisations can be:

First Nations organisations and programs

Supporting First Nations–led organisations that deliver culturally grounded services, advocacy and community development.

Championing Indigenous self-determination, cultural knowledge, land stewardship, and community-driven solutions. Strengthening First Nations programs within non-Indigenous organisations.

International development

A diverse field that broadly focusses on improving social, political and economic dimensions in less-economically developed countries.

Areas within this field include education, governance and democracy, economic growth, poverty, inequality, women’s empowerment, community development, natural resource management, agriculture, food scarcity, modern slavery, health and humanitarian assistance .

Promoting an adherence to global standards such as the Sustainable Development Goals.

Disaster relief and humanitarian aid

Providing immediate on-the-ground assistance to communities affected by disasters, either at home or abroad: this may include distributing supplies, medical assistance, financial counselling, grief counselling, rebuilding, or planning for disaster-proof communities.

Responding to future needs and disaster risks.

Education

Developing skills, understanding, awareness and knowledge among a cohort – or a population at large – to transmit not just information and job readiness, but often social skills, character traits and values.

May include teaching, academia, policy, development and fundraising, administration or leadership – often a combination.

Crime, Justice and Legal Issues

May include working to reduce crime rates, prevent at-risk offenders and reduce recidivism (e.g. through practical support, case management and psychosocial education), promote sound legal and justice systems, tackle corruption, and provide legal support and assistance to in-need individuals, families and communities.

A range of organisation types and sizes works in this space, and there is no ‘typical’ organisation, but often cross-pollination with other focus areas.

LGBTQIA+ communities

Advocating for the rights, wellbeing and safety of LGBTQIA+ people across a wide spectrum of areas — including health, legal and justice issues, child welfare, community services, education, policy reform, peak bodies and advocacy organisations.

Addressing challenges such as discrimination, mental health distress, homelessness and barriers to inclusive services.

Promoting visibility, equality and belonging through programs, support services and systemic change that affirm and empower LGBTQIA+ communities.

Arts and culture

Promoting the arts (e.g. visual and performing arts) in communities or society-at-large, including through events, campaigns and institutions (e.g. museums).

Building cultural awareness, engagement and positive social impact.

Poverty and disadvantage

Working to alleviate poverty and improve standards of living among individuals and communities that are less economically resourced or who experience disadvantage.

May work in the space of complex needs and case management of individuals on-the-ground, or more generally in the space of funding, managing and promoting programs to assist the cause of poverty alleviation (e.g. in a specific community or country).

Employment and Training

Helping individuals to find safe and secure employment, holding employers and businesses to account, and achieving a fair employment system.

Unions and employment training centres are among the biggest planners and implementers in this sector.

Community development

Facilitating positive change in communities at a grassroots level, often by bringing community members together and empowering them to generate solutions to problems.

May work on issues such as health and wellbeing, social isolation, infrastructure, social justice, homelessness and unemployment, education and inclusion.

Often includes capacity building and collective action.

Industry associations and membership bodies

Strengthening sector-wide impact through member driven organisations that represent, support and advocate for their members, such as peak bodies, professional associations and trade groups.

Areas of focus include industry standards, professional development, policy engagement, research, capacity building and fostering collaboration across networks.

Promoting strong membership value and unified sector leadership to advance collective goals.

Health, wellbeing and medical research

Working to improve the health and wellbeing of a population, either face-to-face (e.g. through community services organisations or the medical profession) or indirectly (e.g. through research, advocacy or governance).

Often helping to reduce health inequalities and improve wellbeing for specific sub-sections of the community.

Human Rights

Recognising the inherent worth and value of all human beings and working to ensure their dignity is upheld and that they are able to meet basic needs.

Investigating human rights breaches, holding countries or perpetrators to account, providing legal assistance, or working in any area with the purpose of directly or indirectly assisting people to have their rights respected and met.

Climate change, environment, conservation and animal welfare

Focussing on ecological health, conservation, environmental measures of sustainability, landscape restoration, agriculture, climate change and animal welfare.

Often working with communities to develop campaigns to improve relationships between humans and the environment/animals for protection and sustainable resource use. Incudes ESG and sustainable finance.

Housing and Homelessness

Helping to ensure that all people have access to safe and secure housing, by way of reducing or ending homelessness in all its forms and supporting at-risk individuals and families.

Often includes a combination of outreach support, case management, advocacy, providing opportunities directly (e.g. through a social enterprise offering employment or accommodation), and understanding complex lives and needs.

Migrant and Indigeneous Communities

Working for the human rights, health, spiritual and cultural wellness, social connectedness and general wellbeing of immigrants and indigenous people in a community or country.

Often a focus on legal assistance, education, connection to country, political representation and advocacy.

Disability

Providing support to people with a disability by improving their quality of life, participation in the community, and opportunities.

May be frontline (i.e. disability support services) or from an advocacy angle (e.g. to change policy or seek funding and support for programs).

Aged Care

Supporting the health, wellbeing and safety of elderly people, often through aged care homes, in-home support and other frontline services.

Helping to promote respect and dignity for the elderly.
