The Australian Communications Consumer Action Network (ACCAN) is Australia’s peak national consumer advocacy organisation for communications working to achieve trusted, accessible, inclusive, affordable and available communications and digital services for all Australians.

The Role
   
Reporting to the deputy CEO and managing the consumer education officer, this newly created key leadership position is central to ACCAN's commitment to ensuring telecommunications services are accessible and inclusive for all consumers, with particular focus on people with disabilities and older Australians.
  
The role delivers accessibility objectives through project management, policy support, hands-on operations, through to executive engagement across government, industry, and community sectors, serving as a key representative on telecommunications accessibility issues.
  
Translating consumer insights into actionable policy recommendations, you will generate critical evidence and intelligence informing ACCAN’s broader advocacy work, while delivering tangible outcomes for consumers navigating accessibility challenges. You will manage a significant grant with strategic deliverables, ensuring ACCAN maintains its reputation as a leading voice on communications accessibility.

Skills Required

As a highly regarded champion for the voice of consumers, you’ll have worked in a project management position ideally within a peak body, a campaign-based not-for-profit or like-minded corporate, or possibly within government. Personal experience with disability or caring responsibilities that enhances understanding of consumer accessibility needs would be an advantage. You will also have the following experience:

• Experience managing complex projects with compliance requirements preferably including government grant management and an understanding of telecommunications devices and platforms
• Designing and managing consumer research programs, including management of external research consultants
• Understanding of disability and accessibility issues, particularly in telecommunications and digital technology
• Advanced communication skills with the ability to adapt messaging for diverse audiences, including technical, policy, and consumer contexts
• Strong relationship management skills with demonstrated ability to engage effectively across government, industry, and community sectors.
