Challenge

Plan needed an innovative individual to lead its Pacific operations, to drive change and deliver results that would allow Plan to reach its target of 100 million girls.

The pacific programme director would drive Plan International’s programme and influencing work across three Pacific countries in the Pacific, setting overall direction, leading a high performing team across the Pacific, ensuring accountability for meeting resource mobilisation targets, and maintaining alignment with the global strategy. This leader would also represent Plan International to the highest levels of government, civil society, and the local and international media.

Plan’s brief was to find a multi-country programme manager, with Pacific citizenship, experienced in working with international aid organisations in the Pacific region, and who had a deep understanding of child rights and ‘gender in development’.

Solution

NGO Recruitment ran a targeted outreach and advertising campaign to identify the Pacific humanitarian professional needed to lead the region’s teams. With a focus on Pacific nationals residing in the APAC region, and with current or recent experience in the Pacific itself, NGO Recruitment launched its campaign. The team conducted detailed mapping, headhunting, outreach and targeted database strategies, and ran a broad social media and marketing campaign.

The team screened nearly 200 applications to arrive at the shortlist which surpassed the client’s expectations.

The successful candidate was a female Pacific national, with solid programme and fundraising leadership and donor compliance expertise. Experience gained in humanitarian organisations including the International Committee of the Red Cross and GIZ. The candidate had successfully led on fundraising and overseen multi-country teams, with strong gender mainstreaming experience, and a genuine passion for Plan’s mission.
